Norish logistics keep a cool head with AFI Resale’s long term hires
‘By hiring instead of purchasing, we can make better use of capital by investing for growth in our core activities. Such as increasing our storage and freezing capacity and making further investment in our facilities.’

About Norish Logistics
Norish logistics is a third party multi-temperature warehousing and logistics business and has been trading since 1975.
Norish were frequent users of access platforms but this was the first time that they have hired machines over a longer period in this way. They were looking for a more cost effective way to utilise powered access.
Norish hired six Skyjack SJ4632 scissor lifts from us over a 60 month period and is using them for maintenance and stock/audit checks at its sites in Lympne (East Kent), Gillingham, Braintree, Bury St Edmunds, Brierley Hill and Wrexham.
Managing Director Norman Hatcliff said:
“We often have mechanical handling equipment on long term hire but this is the first time we have hired powered access machines in this way. By hiring instead of purchasing we can make better use of capital by investing for growth in our core activities, such as increasing our storage and freezing capacity and making further investment in our facilities.
We’ve had machines from AFI before on short term hire and the machines have always been good quality. With changes to working at height legislation we recognised the need to have machines on our sites at all times. This has brought further benefits because we can ensure that our facilities are always maintained to the extremely high standards required in a food industry environment,” he added.
Denise Wathen UK Retail Sales Manager for AFI Resale said:
“Long term hire helps companies such as Norish to avoid rising costs and have better cash flow. There is no capital outlay, just monthly payments that are fixed for the duration of the contract, and maintenance is included. At the end of the contract Norish can choose to return the machines, replace them with other machines, or purchase them outright, so there is plenty of flexibility when it comes to long term hire.
These types of hire also help companies such as Norish to avoid rising costs and have better cash flow. We continue to make major investments in our hire fleet to ensure that its current average machine age continues to be significantly younger than many of our national competitors. This ensures that our customers are hiring some of the most modern and reliable machines available.”
Norish changed the way that money was spent on access platforms and therefore were able to avoid the larger outlays of purchasing machines outright. This allowed them to use the capital for other vital requirements in the business such as increasing storage, freezing capacity and investment in facilities.
